With K Báez Sets New Mark
It's not often you see history in the making, but it happened today at Ballpark of Missouri. <Sergio Báez:player#5054> fired a third strike past his 179th batter this year to establish a new league mark for a season. The game was held up for about five minutes as the crowd roared in appreciation and <Báez:player#5054> was presented the historic ball. Previously the strikeout record was held by <Shawn O'Reilly:player#5609>. Talking to the press about his method of success, <Báez:player#5054> told them, "I could probably throw harder if I wanted, but why? When they're in a jam, a lot of pitchers...try to throw harder. Me, I try to locate better."

Thus far this season, <Báez:player#5054> has worked 126.1 innings with 179 strikeouts en route to a 12-2 record and a 2.56 ERA.
