Mallards Subdue Illinois, 2-1
The Minnesota Mallards satisfied the home crowd at Dylan Park at Hennepin, treating them to a season-opening win, 2-1, over the Illinois Warhawks. Starting Pitcher <Arturo Valadez:player#163> was the standout performer for Minnesota. The winning pitcher was Valadez, now 1-0. He tossed 7.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 0 and fanning 4. <Eric King:player#4315> locked down his 1st save.

In the bottom of the third, <Ben Gloff:player#8885> hit a 2-run  home run. The 1st home run of the season for the Minnesota first baseman put the Mallards on top, 2-0.

"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Minnesota manager  .
